An RCD, or residual current device, is a life-saving device which is designed to prevent you or your family from getting a fatal electric shock if you touch something live, such as a bare wire. It can also provide some protection against electrical fires. RCDs offer a level of personal protection that ordinary fuses or fire wire and circuit-breakers cannot provide

EICR, Electrical Installation Condition Report (PIR)

Most electrical installations can suffer damage, deterioration and alteration throughout their operational life, and this highlights how essential testing and inspection is to confirm the safe operation of any installation.
Problems with electrical installation can occur due to the following:

  1. A change of owner within the premises
  2. A change of use within the premises
  3. Alterations or additions to the original installation
  4. Significant changes in the electrical loading of the installation
  5. If there is reason to believe that the installation may have been damaged in some way.

All installations must be compliant with the regulations within the Electricity At Work Act 1989. Legal responsibility to prevent electrical accidents is placed with the owner of the installation(s) in question.
